Session 6

The understory

Building on key insights from the previous session around the unconscious mind, we will be exploring the dark and nebulous world of working with the understory. This is not the explicit story you tell, but the implicit story that you communicate to others – whether you are aware of it or not. Every encounter or engagement we have with audiences we implicitly communicate another story to the one we tell. We will show you how to control your understory and work with it to help overcome low audience motivation, indifference and antagonism towards your climate campaigns and messaging.

This session will be essential for all climate activists who have felt they have hit a brick wall in their work, where they simply cannot reach or engage some audiences. To tackle climate change we need everyone on board, not just a select few, this is why working on understories – difficult though they are – are essential in helping to create authentic messages and enrich audience engagement.

Coming Soon – 28 July 2022

Cost: £25 per session, or £125 for the whole course (discounts available)

New motivational theory

Standard motivational models tend to conflate the different stages of intrinsic motivation (self-regulation) into a single category or to view intrinsic motivation only in terms of utility (i.e. improved outputs).

The result is that our current motivational models are no longer fit for purpose in terms of working with higher values, or how to create long-term behavioural change.

Creating a new and expanded model, utilising insights from neuro-psychology, offers some profound insights on how to create meaningful change on the issues we care about.
